Google’s New Keyword Research Tool

May 21, 2010 | Marketing, PPC, SEO by | Comments

As usual Google is releasing a new version of one of their many services. This time they have decided to revamp their already useful keyword research tool. Some new features that they have added over the old version are:

  • Ability to add and remove categories from the search results.
  • Ability to show stats for mobile search.
  • Ability to show all three match types at once.
  • Ability to have the results only show “ideas containing my search terms” or “all keyword ideas”.
  • Ability to filter the result based on whether a value is more than or less than a preset value.
  • Ability to view Ad Share as well as Search Share.
  • Ability to export more information such as search volume trends and the search volumes for the different match types.

Navigating the new keyword tool is a bit different than the old tool, so I am including a screenshot of where to find the new additions.

Overall, Google has done a good job with the new additions to the keyword tool. Two of the most valuable additions in my opinion are being able to view search volumes for different match types at the same time and the ability to add and remove keywords by categories. These two features alone will give search marketer the ability to more accurately determine appropriate match types as well as remove any unrelated keywords.  I am looking forward to see what other tools Google releases/improves for the future.
